Halloween is coming soon and it's one of my favorite times of the year. It isn't the costumes, as I no longer dress up and haven't in decades. It isn't the trick-or-treaters, since I can no longer engage in getting up and sitting down a couple of hundred times a night. My knees and back pay for it well into November. I used to love decorating, but there's no use in decorating if you don't have trick-or-treaters. So what do I love?
For me, it's the power of this time of the year. This is when the earth begins its long dormancy, it's regenerative sleep. It's almost like a dream. As the sun goes down earlier and a chill falls upon the darkness in an unyielding promise of what is to come, a sense of mystery and wonder arrives. This is a time of magic and possibilities. This is the last opportunity to prepare for the season to come.
As the sun continues its long slide downward to the winter solstice, the days get shorter, the nights longer, and the imagination more active. This is a good time to learn, think and wander in the hallways of waking dreams and colorful nights.
I've redone my website because it's about time I did so. It looks completely different and it is exactly that. There are days when something comes to mind to write about, but it doesn't seem to be worth an entire essay or putting pen to paper. I suppose they'll end up here.
I suppose this might end up being my shopping list, but for those who might be interested in what I purchase at the grocery store, that might be entertaining.
At least it no longer reminds me of a circus poster.
Thus it is!
